Hon. Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Bala Nanda Sharma is a distinguished military leader, peacebuilding expert, and academician with over four decades of experience in leadership, security, and conflict resolution. He served in the Nepali Army for 39 years, holding various command, staff, and instructional appointments, including Instructor at the Army Training School and Commandant of the Army Command and Staff College. He also served as the Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in the Golan Heights and continues to contribute as a resource person on United Nations peace operations.
Gen. Sharma played a significant role in Nepal’s peace process as the Coordinator of the Special Committee Secretariat for the integration and rehabilitation of former Maoist combatants. He has also contributed to national crisis management initiatives, including leading the COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre, and served as Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs from December 2025 to March 2026.
With extensive experience in peace, security, and reconciliation, Gen. Sharma continues to share his knowledge and expertise through teaching, research, and engagement in national and international initiatives related to leadership, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding.
