MCP Students Support Communities Affected by the Bhotekoshi Floods 2026

Students from Samarpan Academy’s Master’s in Counseling Psychology (MCP) program recently participated in psychosocial support activities in Mata Tirtha, Chandragiri, in collaboration with an NGO supporting communities affected by the Bhotekoshi floods.

 

The students contributed to community-level screening and identification of psychosocial needs, working alongside counseling professionals to support appropriate follow-up and care.

 

The experience highlighted the complex and interconnected impacts of disasters. Although Mata Tirtha was not directly affected by the Bhotekoshi floods, the disaster has reached the community in different ways. The settlements include people from Rasuwa who migrated to the area following the 2015 earthquake and now have family members and relatives affected by the floods along the Bhotekoshi River basin. The area has also become a temporary shelter for people directly displaced by the recent floods.

 

This reminds us that the impacts of disasters can extend beyond the areas directly affected, creating layers of displacement, uncertainty, and psychosocial challenges across communities.

 

As an academic institution, we are happy to see our MCP students putting their knowledge and skills into practice to support communities during a difficult time. These experiences strengthen their professional capacity while reinforcing the important role of counseling psychology in disaster and humanitarian response.
