ICMS Field Visit to No. 1 Battalion Disaster Management in Sundarjal
ICMS Students from both 5th and 6th batch were fortunate to have the opportunity to visit the 1st Battalion of Disaster Management in Sundarijal. Despite the rainy weather, it was an excellent opportunity to learn more about the role of both the Nepali Army and more specifically No. 1 Battalion in situations of disaster and emergency response.
With presentations delivered by several senior officers, we were able to develop a better understanding of the role, capacity and challenges of the Battalion when disaster strikes. We had the opportunity to ask questions about a variety of situations, from the Batallion’s role in the 2015 Earthquake to more local river rescue operations and the limitations of their abilities.

Following a morning of presentations, ICMS faculty and students were then fortunate to witness several demonstrations of the Battalion's capacity to perform water rescues, urban search and rescues after an earthquake, building rescues and firefighting operations – it was an excellent show of the team skill, training and precision required to ensure successful rescue operations.
We would like to sincerely thank Brigadier General Jeet Bahadur Gurung and all members of the No. 1 Battalion for the insightful experience and for facilitating such an educational day.
