Training of trainers on disaster risk reduction of school
Nepal is ranked poorly in terms of Disaster and vulnerability to disaster. It can be argued that the relatively young mountains, diverse geographic location and border to the Indian/ Eurasian plates means that Nepal is in an area prone to multiple natural hazards. To add to the challenge the citizens of Nepal are relatively unknown of reoccurring hazards and disaster management cycle. Although the country is land locked, Nepal is exposed to extreme weather condition, climate change and water induced disasters. The Ministry of Home Affairs is the focal ministry to manage disaster and reduce the risk of hazards. Nepal is ranked 4th, 11th and 30th in terms of climate change, earthquake and flood risk respectively” (UNDP/BCPR, 2004).
The Sendai Framework of Action has set goals to enable countries and nations to develop strategies that help reduce the risk of Disasters. The Sendai Framework of action stressed the importance of identifying and disseminating information to local representatives, as they are the first responders in case of a disaster. Similarly Comprehensive School Safety, (CSS) 2015 puts forward a comprehensive approach to reducing risk from all hazards to the education sector. CSS is parallel with the previously Hyogo framework now Sendai framework as well as MDG (Millennium Development goal) at current SDG (Sustainable development Goal). CSS provides three main pillars for the school safety by addressing education policy and practices aligned with disaster management at national, regional, district, and local school site levels.
